A 47-year-old Iqaluit man faces numerous charges in connection with what RCMP describe as “an incident” that occurred downtown earlier this month.

“On Jan. 2, between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. an incident occurred in the parking lot behind the CIBC building,” the RCMP said in a news release Friday afternoon.

No further details were released regarding the circumstances of the incident or if anyone was injured.

The Iqaluit man, who was arrested Wednesday and not identified in the release, is charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

He is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Nunavut Court of Justice on Feb. 15 in Iqaluit.

I lived in Frobisher Bay N.W.T. From Jan 14 1973 until Dec. 1975. I loved it. Also loved the Inuit people. Those were 3 of the most memorable years of my life. It was small and the majority of people were unilaterally. Things have changed. I follow the news the best I can. I’m now 72 years old. Nakwami(spelling) . Mike Chapman

No need to quit your job. There is absolutely no publication ban on this matter, though even if there was, the public is allowed to view court dockets at nunavutcourts.ca. The article says the date the suspect will be appearing in court, and it clearly states all the charges he is facing. The docket has all the criminal code charges next to the persons name. For example , for a person charged with assault you might see CCC 266. If you want to know what the numbers mean, google criminal code and the number. With that information, you can find out who it is. It is public information, and you are allowed look it up.
