An Iqaluit youth faces four criminal charges after two separate incidents in Iqaluit last week.

RCMP in Iqaluit charged a youth after a woman was shot with a BB gun in the city on July 20.

Iqaluit police received a complaint from the woman at around 5:20 p.m., RCMP spokesperson Cpl. George Henrie said Thursday in an email.

“A youth was identified, and is being charged under the [Criminal Code of Canada],” Henrie said.

The youth was charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and assault with a weapon.

The RCMP did not provide the age or gender of the youth.

The woman’s injury was minor and she was able to drive herself to Qikiqtani General Hospital, Henrie said.

The next day, on July 21, the same youth was charged again after a separate incident. The youth was charged with assault and assault with a weapon.

People under the age of 18 who are charged with criminal offences cannot be publicly identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The youth’s first court appearance is set for Sept. 20.
