Iqaluit RCMP seize cannabis, other drugs during impaired driving investigation

Police said officers discovered drugs and cash during search of man’s vehicle

Iqaluit RCMP arrested a 33-year-old man for impaired driving and possession of drugs on April 10.

The driver was arrested at 7:45 p.m., as part of an impaired-driving investigation in the city, a police news release issued Friday said.

Police said a search of the vehicle also revealed several large bags of cannabis and other substances. Three thousand grams of cannabis, 450 grams of what is believed to be psilocybin and $1,600 in cash were seized. 

The man was charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired, possession of substances for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling, and possession of more than 30 grams dried cannabis in a public place.

He is scheduled to appear in the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit on June 23, police said.
