When Iqaluit residents pay their April utility bills this month, the price they pay for water will be cheaper than it was in previous months.
The new residential water rate is one cent per litre, half of what it was before April. Previously, the cost for a litre of water was two cents.
The City of Iqaluit’s new water rates, unanimously approved by city council last month, took effect April 1.
In a public service announcement Wednesday, the city reminded residents of the new rates, saying that they will be reflected in April’s bill, which will be issued this month.
While residential water rates went down, they are now higher for businesses and government users. The new commercial water rate is 3.5 cents per litre, and the government water rate is eight cents per litre.
Previously, the rate for those buildings was two cents per litre.
The new water rates were unanimously approved by council at its March 12 meeting.
Wonder how businesses are going to react to that. Pass the increase onto the consumer?
Mr Murphy didn’t you leave Iqaluit? You seem to always jump in on Iqaluit issues but are no longer a resident so I don’t understand how you think your comments are helpful in anyway.
My apologies. Thought Iqaluit was the capital of Nunavut, Such a thoughtful person such as yourself must know when that changed.
Do I offend you when I comment on your hamlet? Tough nookies. I don’t care.
But then you remain anonymous like so many over there.
That’s great 50% off!
