IQALUIT — Ol’ time rock and roll sounded through St. Jude’s Parish Hall last Friday night in Iqaluit.

People came out to the dry event, which was sponsored by the Adult Justice Committee, to have a good time and to dance. The dance was on a 1950’s and 1960’s theme.

“Everybody there had a great old time,” said Elisapi Davidee, a member of Iqaluit’s adult justice committee, referring to the last dry dance that they held last year.

“People have asked for more of these dry dances,” Davidee says. It is a healthy alternative to drinking, Davidee says.

People who attended the event were welcomed with free hotdogs, hamburgers and door prizes. The dance was open to anyone 16 years of age and older.

The DJ was none other than Jonah Kelly, the retired CBC radio host. He played 1950s and 1960s music from his own collection, and borrowed music from other people.

Iqaluit’s adult justice committee will hold similar activities throughout the spring of this year.

The dry dance at the parish hall on January 28 was just one of the planned activities this year.
