A Kinngait man faces more than 20 criminal charges, including forcible confinement, assault, breaking and entering, resisting arrest and firearms infractions, following an alleged home invasion.

Police were called to a home in the hamlet of approximatley 1,500 people Wednesday and, after there was no answer at the door, entered by force, Nunavut RCMP said in a news release.

Police said they found three people in the house, one of whom told them that a man was in the bathroom.

Police arrested Allen Oshutsiaq, 25, and laid a total of 21 charges.

Police said alcohol was a factor.

Oshutsiaq appeared in court Thursday, police said.

Police are unaware if there were any injuries, as the investigation is ongoing, said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Pauline Melanson.
