Blizzard conditions have caused the Kivalliq Inuit Association to delay elections in Rankin Inlet, Arviat and Naujaat today.
Kivalliq beneficiaries were scheduled to cast their ballots for the KIA president and community directors today, Dec. 9.
“KIA Elections are postponed this morning due to the blizzard. We are keeping an eye on what the Government of Nunavut announces for their offices this afternoon and make a decision then. Even with some communities open, there will be no counting of any ballots until all seven communities are done with their elections. We will keep updating as we know,” Nancy Karetak-Lindell, the election’s chief returning officer, said in a Facebook post on Monday morning.
In an update this afternoon, Karetak-Lindell said that polls in Arviat, Rankin Inlet and Naujaat will remain closed for the day and will be rescheduled once the weather clears.
