The Kivalliq Inuit Association is teaming up with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30.

The federal holiday, which was observed last year for the first time, is meant to recognize and honour lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.

As part of the commemoration this year, 80 Inuit from all seven Kivalliq communities and Sanikiluaq will be selected to attend a Blue Bombers’ home game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on the day.

Those attending will also receive accommodation in a hotel for three nights, special game day merchandise and a meal voucher for the event.

Each community will have the opportunity to nominate two guests who will be entered into a draw to participate in the pre-game ceremony on the field as well. Those selected will get to run out of the tunnel in advance of the team.

Inuit interested in attending the game on Sept. 30 can submit an application through the association’s website.

The deadline to submit an application is Aug. 17.

The selected participants will be announced via the association’s Facebook on Aug. 19.

this must be in the range of 200,000 dollars wasted instead of actually being useful to inuit in need.

I guess this will be KivA friends and family only. Like all contests and tags the Inuit organizations hold.

false advertising, residents of Sanikiluaq are not able to enter. they said Sanikiluaq was part of Baffin Region when it is said on the article and on KIA’s website that Sanikiluaq was included in the contest.
