Hydro-Québec cut off power to most of Kuujjuaq Tuesday as part of what the company called a planned power outage.

The disruptions will continue until Thursday, the company said in an email.

The reason for the service disruption is that it’s creating a network loopback for the newer section of town. That will create a way for residents to keep services even during a power outage.

According to Hydro-Québec, if there were maintenance issues before this implementation, that whole section of town would be without electricity. But with these new renovations fewer people will be affected by outages.

Hydro-Québec said the planned outages will last from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. until Thursday afternoon, leaving an hour during lunchtime for people to cook and eat.

Hydro Quebec kuujjuaq station appears to be using the upmost safety when they are working along the road in kuujjuaq. They have warning to people and traffic that they’re working, and the crew and their vehicles are operating professionally. But lots of construction going on in kuujjuaq. There are too many heavy equipment loaders and more so the dump trucks on the roads , in and out of town, that are operating at high speed as they are bringing their loads to town. It’s no wonder someone hasn’t been in an accident yet, but if it keeps up it’s just a matter of time. I even seen a large dump truck on airport road last week as it came in from the range area! Back wheel came off on drivers side and the truck went ahead of it more than a hundred feet. Debris , mud rocks all over the road. I think a repair crew spent hours in that spot doing a repair. Or maybe a patch up job. Has anyone from kRG, police saaq, municipality asked for safety checks on these unsafe looking trucks? And who’s responsible for ensuring safety as the cargo ships are unloading their cargo trucked over the road from the dock ? There appears to be all for yourself kind of driving out there in and around the community.
