‘My Corner of Our Land’ returns for Nunavut Day
Three $500 gift cards up for grabs in Nunatsiaq News’ second holiday writing contest; tell us what’s special to you about Nunavut
We learned a lot from our readers last year through Nunatsiaq News’ Nunavut Day writing contest. And we gave away three $500 gift cards, too.
It was so much fun and the results were so delightful, we’re doing it again.
Last year we called the contest “My Corner of Our Land.” Readers from across the territory shared a bit about their corner of the territory.
Nunatsiaq News published 15 of the articles, which came from all regions of Nunavut.
Some writers were eloquent. Some were poetic. They described unique aspects of living in Nunavut, such as how “the land itself provides our needs,” Nunavut is a “place where we cook caribou outside” and how “time spent on the land brings you closer with your family.”
We published a list of links to all the 2022 submissions.
Once again, we are inviting readers to submit articles of up to 250 words that convey what’s special about where you live. We’re even giving away the same prizes again.
It would be wonderful to hear from someone in every hamlet this year, too!
We will publish the articles in the days leading up to Nunavut Day — July 9 — on our website and as many as we can in the July 7 and July 14 print editions, the papers just before and right after Nunavut Day.
The writer of each submission will be entered in a draw for one of the three $500 gift cards to Northern or Arctic Co-op stores.
Please email submissions to editors@nunatsiaq.com by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 3. Use the subject line “My Corner of Our Land” so it’s easy to find them in our inbox. Include a phone number for the writer.
And include a photograph (a selfie is fine) so our readers can see who wrote the article. We would also love it if you would include a picture of whatever the article is about too.
