Ullivik has terminated its contract with Spartan Security and expanded services for Inuit staying at the Quality Inn Hotel after a violent incident in March between a guard and member of the public at the hotel.

The Montreal medical boarding home uses the Quality Inn Hotel as an overflow facility for its Nunavik patients.

A security guard contracted through Spartan Security Services pinned down a friend of a guest at the hotel in the early morning hours of March 6, after the friend was kicked out of the lobby. Spartan later posted an online apology over the incident.

Montreal police are still investigating the incident, said police service spokesperson Véronique Dubuc in an email Monday.

Meanwhile, Spartan Security’s contract with Inuulitsivik Health Centre has been terminated since April 22, said Juliette Rolland, spokesperson for Inuulitsivik, which runs Ullivik.

She said the removal of Spartan Security was a move to improve service quality and ensure greater cultural sensitivity at the hotel.

Agence Vaisseau is now contracted for security services in both Ullivik and the hotel.

“All [Agence Vaisseau] agents are certified in crisis prevention and intervention, with strategies focused on prevention and security de-escalation,” said Rolland, adding that Ullivik also provides training in cultural security.

“This new team stands out for its courtesy, openness and sincere desire to learn more about Inuit culture in order to welcome customers as distinguished guests.”

Three Ullivik managers have also been hired to work at the hotel. They ensure the well-being of patients by meeting all of them every shift, and responding to their needs.

Rolland added there will also be two Inuit employees present at all times at the Quality Inn Hotel.

A reception room was set up exclusively for Ullivik guests, with activities such as board games and movie nights provided in a room adorned by Inuit artwork.

They are exploring the possibility of offering other activities during the evenings and weekends as well.

“We have received very positive feedback from the community about the recent changes,” Rolland said.

It would be surprising if Marriott really wants that business. New hotel, same old drama.

If at first you don’t succeed… meanwhile the ostriches in Europe are all in on fighting the nation with the largest nuclear arsenal in the world, we are fortunate with their brilliant leadership. Carney’s Canada will be 100% on board with them as of July the 1st 2025, geniuses that he and his administration are. Biden in his last year did everything that could be done to throw Trump off the track to a more peaceful world. There”s never a dull moment in the Clown World of international affairs.
