Two weeks after Joshua Qiyuk was fatally stabbed in Ottawa, police are continuing their investigation and no arrests have been made.

“This matter remains under active investigation, and it would be inappropriate to comment on specific individuals at this time,” Maeghan McGaraughty, a spokesperson for the Ottawa Police Service, said in an emailed statement Wednesday.

Qiyuk, a 21-year-old aspiring chef originally from Baker Lake, was found dead in the 400 block of Meadow Park Place on the morning of Oct. 22. Police said he was stabbed.

In a news release Tuesday, Ottawa police said a man was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder following two separate stabbing incidents that occurred Oct. 17 and Oct. 18.

In an interview Tuesday, McGaraughty said police had no information to suggest a connection between the suspect in those stabbings and Qiyuk’s death.

“At present, there is no information we can share that would indicate any specific person’s involvement. We encourage anyone with information related to this investigation to come forward,” she said.

On Sunday, more than 100 mourners including Qiyuk’s mother attended a candlelight vigil for him in Ottawa not far from where he died.
