No charges were laid as Iqaluit RCMP closed its investigation into online comments described as a threat towards city councillors.

“The investigation was concluded, the decision to conclude the file was made in consultation with the complainant,” spokesperson Sgt. George Henrie said in a July 16 email.

Last month, a pair of now-deleted Facebook comments appearing directed at city councillors led to a complaint to police and an RCMP investigation.

Those comments were posted the day after the June 10 council meeting, when councillors approved a controversial amendment to the city’s animal control bylaw.

Coun. Sam Tilley posted a screenshot of those comments on his Facebook. In a message, he described them as a “threat.”

Henrie did not say who the complainant was.

The animal control bylaw amendments allow the city’s municipal enforcement officers to euthanize loose animals caught after a 24 hour hold period.

In the weeks since the bylaw was passed, the city has seen a surge in new pet registrations, resulting in a brief depletion of pet registration tags.

A successful diversion of attention from the real issue, is all this was.

Loose negligent dogs are rampant across the towns in Nunavut. Usually very skinny/famished and fed occasionally.
Most are Inuit owned and chained for life once the puppy novelties wear off 😥😳😈
