Nominations for five seats on the Kivalliq Inuit Association board of directors will open on Oct. 26.

The election is scheduled for Dec. 14, chief returning officer Penny Taylor announced Tuesday, in the association’s notice of election.

The roles include vice-president and secretary/treasurer, as well as the community director positions in Naujaat, Rankin Inlet and Whale Cove.

“This year’s election is more than a procedural milestone — it is an opportunity for Inuit across the Kivalliq region to help shape the future of their communities and strengthen Inuit-led governance,” Taylor said in an email on Tuesday. “The voices of Inuit voters and nominees are essential to that work.”

The nomination period closes at 3 p.m. on Nov. 9.

Advance polls will be held on Dec. 7, Taylor said.

Mobile polls will also visit schools, elders’ centres, health centres, mine sites, boarding homes, healing facilities, and Winnipeg’s Uquutaq Medical Boarding Home. Schedules for each community will be posted by Nov. 30.

Eligible voters must be an Inuk enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement aged 16 years or older as of Dec. 14, 2026, and regularly reside in the Kivalliq region.

KIA is the designated Inuit organization under the Nunavut Final Agreement and one of three regional Inuit organizations associated with Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.
