The nomination period is open for candidates hoping to be the next president of the National Inuit Youth Council.

The youth council represents Inuit youth from across Canada and the president is its spokesperson at the national and international levels.

The president is also a permanent participant on the board of directors at Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and the Inuit Circumpolar Council Canada, according to the ITK website.

The new president will be elected by a vote of National Inuit Youth Council members. The current president, Brian Pottle of Newfoundland and Labrador, was acclaimed in 2021.

To be eligible to run for president candidates must be between 18 and 30 years old on the day of the election — which is June 6 — and be enrolled under an Inuit Nunangat Land Claims Agreement.

The nomination period opened last week and closes May 17 at midnight.

More information on the nomination process is on the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami website.
