The Inuit-led comedy series North of North is guaranteed a win at the Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Awards, earning all five nominations in the comedy series category.
The awards, which recognize excellence in Canadian screenwriting for film, television and digital media, are scheduled to be handed out April 27 at Koerner Hall in Toronto.
The guild announced the nominations on Tuesday.
The five nominated episodes are: Bad Influences, Dumpcano, Joy to the Effing World, Top of the World, and Walrus D*ck Baseball. The first season had eight episodes.
The nominations highlight the work of writers Aviaq Johnston, JP Larocque, Garry Campbell, Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, Linsey Stewart, Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Moriah Sallaffie.
The series, created by Aglok MacDonald and Arnaquq-Baril, premièred on APTN and CBC in January 2025 and Netflix in April 2025.
It follows Siaja, a young woman navigating life in the fictional Nunavut community of Ice Cove. Filming took place mostly in Iqaluit.
Netflix, APTN and CBC jointly renewed North of North for a second season in April 2025.

Congratulations to the creator, writers, actors, community of Iqaluit and NETFLIX.
I cannot wait for SEASON 2 to begin.
I am reminding the show kindly to describe Inuit made wear correctly. Rubber and canvas are different from animal skin.
Congrats to the show and their team! Though, this series isn’t just a Netflix series per se. It’s a co-production between APTN, CBC and Netflix. You can watch the show on all three in Canada (APTN, CBC Gem and Netflix).

Really love this show, so congratulations to them.
