North West Co. ‘supports’ grocers’ code of conduct
Grocery Code of Conduct would be voluntary rules to create fairness and transparency in grocery store-supplier negotiations
A major Northern grocery says it “is supportive” of the planned Grocery Code of Conduct.
The North West Co. is “in discussions” with the newly formed interim board of governors for the Grocery Code of Conduct, said Darryl Martin, spokesperson for the North West Co., the parent company of Northmart and Northern stores.
The Grocery Code of Conduct is an industry-led initiative to promote predictable pricing, transparency and fair negotiations between suppliers and grocers.
Last month, the federal government announced $1.2 million in funding for the Grocery Code of Conduct’s Interim Board of Governors to develop a self-sustaining regulatory organization.
That organization would operate separately from the government and be self-regulating.
Five major Canadian grocery store chains — Loblaw, Costco, Walmart, Sobeys and Metro — have committed to supporting the code.
Noting that discussions are ongoing, Martin said North West Co. “will provide an update once we have more information.”
not ,,,bread is over 6 bucks a. single loaf and a tboone steak 1/2″ thick 450 grams for 26 dollars. I call bs.
Tell me why you need a t-bone steak?
So i can boil it to eat …your mentality is like that to be asking a stupid queztion .
Boil a t-bone!? LOL
Buy a blade steak, save yourself some money, you won’t even know the difference.
Does anyone have the recipe for the genuine “Jig’s Dinner”?
Please?
Jigs dinner is made with a brisket, not a t-bone, and there’s good reason for that.
I pledge to run the retail price up as high as it can be in turn forcing the consumer to pay the highest tax in the land.
That is every managers dream….
But in reality..it has already happened. Just go buy a lb of oranges.
Where does the highest tax in the land claim come from. Lowest payroll tax, the majority of resident pay no property tax, GST no PST, check what other provinces pay. Yup it is expensive but not too many people get pay adjustments to help compensate. Been there done that and even bought the t-shirt.
LOL BS. I worked for the Northern and this is pure BS
They support it because they are receiving Jordan’s principal
This will do nothing.. Gov’t needs to control freight costs since they subsidize the airlines anyways this should be easy, put both stores on level playing field by setting one freight rate. Also eliminate or control best before dating sorry ships barges for stores have been trending downward for years to the point of ships don’t matter and the ship prices are crazy………..people be flying in trucks in the West..
Also as retailers its up to the managers to control pricing by choosing like we always have on what we should carry, if it dont make sense dont carry it..
Everything taxed so high but we still have to pay on top of everything else
At least we get nutrition north. Go see north alaska with no nutrition north almost double nunavut prices.
There jacking up the price again and pretend to lower there price down other day price on some item I go were 12.99 and 8.99 I tried to buy them other day they were saying on sale price 12.99 from 15.99 and other one was 8.99 sale price 10.99 this is how bad they are when they start receiving they funding for government funding.
Minimum wage 19.hr, heating fuel up, gas up, electricity up,Airline frt rates up, and Lori and Singh, working on Revising Nutrition North, Good luck to us living in Nunavut,
nutrition north should apply only above the treeline….and only remote fly in fly out 1st nation communities, not where there are all weather roads supplying the towns with cheap consumer products, wood is supposed to be renewable but costs like its the last tree in the world up in the arctic.
Not exactly. Places like Tuk no longer get full NN subsidy since the opening of the road and have seen their food prices skyrocket higher than most places in NU, despite having an all-season road.
