The Nunavut RCMP have charged Raymond Komak, 44, of Cambridge Bay with murder in connection with another Cambridge Bay man of 46 who was found unresponsive on Saturday, Jan. 26.

Members of the Cambridge Bay RCMP, the Nunavut RCMP V Division major crime unit and the Northwest Territories RCMP G Division major crime unit all helped in the investigation, an RCMP news release said today.

Komak will appear at the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit in early February.

Sources in the community and multiple social media posts from Cambridge Bay suggest the homicide victim likely died on Saturday.

His death provoked an outpouring of support for the bereaved family across the Kitikmeot region. And a fundraising drive in Cambridge Bay raised money to pay the cost of transporting a family member from Kugluktuk to Cambridge Bay.

Also, the RCMP are investigating the sudden death of a 31-year-old woman in Kugluktuk who was found yesterday, Jan. 29.

And police have laid a murder charge against a Kugluktuk youth in connection with the April 2017 death of 46-year-old Margaret Ogina.

See this story for more information on the Kugluktuk matters.
