Premier announces $25,000 donation to Canadian Red Cross
The Government of Nunavut is donating $25,000 to help relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Fiona, it announced Wednesday.
The money will go to the Canadian Red Cross to help recovery efforts for people along the eastern seaboard reeling from the storm’s devastation, said GN spokesperson Sima Sahar Zerehi.
On Sept. 24, the hurricane swept through Atlantic Canada, causing massive damage to homes and infrastructure.
“Inuit societal values teach us to provide for family and community … Nunavummiut stand with our friends in the east coast,” said Nunavut Premier P.J. Akeeagok in a statement.
On Tuesday, the federal government announced the creation of the Hurricane Fiona Recovery Fund, which will provide up to $300 million over two years to help those impacted by the storm.
