An Iqaluit man who pleaded guilty to attempted murder and other charges will be sentenced in October.

Robert Flaherty appeared in an Iqaluit courtroom Thursday to schedule his sentencing.

Flaherty was charged in October 2022 after police arrived at an Iqaluit home and found two female victims with stab wounds, according to an RCMP release from Oct. 26, 2022.

Both victims were transported to Qikiqtani General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Oct. 21, 2024, Flaherty pleaded guilty to attempted murder along with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and possession of property obtained by crime, Crown prosecutor Stephanie Boydell said after the matter was adjourned Thursday.

Hope the justice system isn’t giving a slap on the wrist. They need to do hard time especially since he almost murdered them. No more small sentences, send a message that NO MORE. No more violence, this person also tried to run over someone in Greenland. Enough. You do violent things, hard time is in front of you.

Hope they victims are healing and never have to see his face again❤️‍🩹

Unfortunately, that only happens and will continue every time you elect an NDP candidate as MP. Like the Liberals, they are soft on crime and drugs.
