The Qikiqtani Inuit Association is looking for its next president.
It’s also looking for community directors in Iqaluit, Igloolik, Kimmirut, Sanirajak, Clyde River, Pond Inlet and Sanikiluaq, said a news release issued Thursday by Markoosie Qaunirq, spokesperson for QIA.
Each position carries a four-year term.
The nomination period for the election runs from Nov. 9 to 13.
Eligible voters must be Inuit, enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement; at least 16 years old; and have resided in the Qikiqtani Region for one year or more, according to the release.
The current QIA president Olayuk Akesuk won the 2022 election over Paul Okalik, with 61.2 per cent of the vote. He had served in the role since the fall of 2021, when he took over from P.J. Akeeagok, who resigned to run for MLA.
Election day is set for Dec. 14.

It is high time we replaced Olayuk. Nice guy but really not up to the job.
I hope you will run!
You better convince the 200 people that are gonna go and vote, then!
I actually think Olayuk has been a great President. Credible understands the issues, understands how gov’t works.
I hope he runs again!
