A team of professional women hockey players is coming to Iqaluit this weekend to lead a hockey camp for girls.

The Nunavut Ukpiit Hockey Association has brought in three players from the Toronto Sceptres, who compete in the Professional Women’s Hockey League, to take part in strength and conditioning courses led by Sceptres training coach Kate Germain, according to an update on the association’s Facebook page.

Events are scheduled to start Friday at 4:30 p.m. and continue through Sunday. Girls registered with the Iqaluit Amateur Hockey Association are invited to take part.

Regularly scheduled events hosted at Arctic Winter Games Arena, such as public skating and other practices, have been cancelled to allow for the hockey camp programming.

According to the association’s website, the goal of this camp is to empower women’s hockey players across the territory, both in hockey and in life.
