Raglan Mine is conducting community perception surveys to assess both local socio-economic context and how community members perceive the mine’s operations, the company said in a news release sent by community relations chief Veronique Décoste.

The mine hired ERM, a third-party consulting firm on sustainability, which is collecting data through interviews, focus groups and a survey across Nunavik communities.

Raglan is required by its parent company, Glencore, to assess local social, cultural and economic context, and to understand community member’s perception of the mine.

The survey, which can be accessed through a QR code sent out by email to community members, asks volunteers to identify their field of work and their experience on the land.

Then, it asks questions on the performance of Raglan Mine regarding environmental impacts on the land, the impact the mine had on relationships between community members, the mine’s understanding of community priorities, inclusion of the community in dialogue and decision-making, and more.

ERM’s research intends to help Raglan better understand how its communication and engagement are reaching community members, and how they can improve.

The deadline to complete the online survey is Oct. 31.
