A former Hamlet of Kugaaruk employee is facing six counts of fraud-related charges, after a year-long RCMP investigation.

Police have charged 29-year-old Hanah Arafiles with fraud over $5,000, forgery, uttering forged documents, drawing document without authority, theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

Sgt. George Henrie announced the charges in a news release on Friday.

In August 2025, police opened an investigation after the hamlet alleged that a former employee had defrauded it earlier that year.

One year later, a Nunavut judge issued an arrest warrant.

On Oct. 8, the Ontario Provincial Police arrested Arafiles in Pembroke, Ont.

She has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Iqaluit court on Nov. 2.
