RCMP in Iqaluit are investigating the death of a female whose body was found outdoors last month.

Police spokesperson Sgt. Pauline Melanson said police were contacted by City of Iqaluit Emergency Services at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 “to attend as a deceased female was located outside.”

Officers attended and the coroner’s office was called in, Melanson told Nunatsiaq News in an email Monday.

“Currently, the matter is still under investigation therefore no other information can be provided at this time,” she said.

Police did not release the identity of the female or say whether foul play is suspected, and did not indicate where in the city her body was found.

The coroner’s office has not yet responded to Nunatsiaq News’ request for information.
