A male suspect was arrested following an incident Friday morning in Pond Inlet in which the RCMP ordered the hamlet into a six-hour lockdown.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and no injuries were reported during the lockdown, Cpl. George Henrie said in an update Friday afternoon.
No other details on the incident were provided on the investigation. The suspect was not identified and there was no word as to whether charges have been laid.
At about 4:30 a.m. Friday, police asked people in the community to shelter in place and stay away from the 600-block area.
A post on Nunavut RCMP’s official Facebook account said police in the community were “dealing with an incident.”
Several offices and businesses announced on Facebook Friday morning they would be closed until further notice, including both schools, the Parks Canada office and Naurainnuk Daycare Centre.
The health centre’s appointments were also cancelled for the morning, according to a post on the Pond Inlet News Facebook page.
At about 10:30 a.m., RCMP posted on Facebook that the incident had been resolved.
