The Department of Health is advising Nunavummiut about a food recall issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency due to a possible botulism risk.
Consumers should not consume the following recalled product:
- Saladitos brand Lupini Beans, size 580 mL, UPC 8 413295 800514, Batch no: 2025-AL-18 L 162091
This product should be thrown out or returned to the location where it was purchased, said Health spokesperson Pierre Essoh in a news release on Wednesday.
Food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum toxin, which causes botulism, may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick, Essoh advised.
Symptoms in adults can include facial paralysis or loss of facial expression, unreactive or fixed pupils, difficulty swallowing, drooping eyelids, blurred or double vision, difficulty speaking, including slurred speech, and a change in sound of voice, including hoarseness.
Symptoms of foodborne botulism in children can include difficulty swallowing, slurred speech, generalized weakness, and paralysis. Botulism does not cause a fever but in severe cases of illness, it can be fatal.
