Nunatsiaq News is pleased to present the latest series of comic strips by Ayla Kreelak, the Baker Lake artist who created the Smidge and Friends series that has been published in this paper since 2021.

Her new series, “Smidge’s Space Story,” will explore deeper into the background of Smidge — an alien.

The story takes place in Baker Lake, which made news with UFO sightings back in the mid-2000s and early 2010s.

With twice as many panels as her previous comic strips, this series will be one continuous storyline from October through to January 2023.

There will be more Smidge and Friends comics to be published after this weekly 15-part special series.

Nunatsiaq News is also proud that Kreelak was the winner in the Editorial Cartooning category at the Quebec Community Newspapers Association awards for 2021. The results were announced at the end of September.
