The Department of Health is warning Kugluktuk residents the hamlet’s health centre is operating under reduced services due to a temporary staff shortage.

The reduction in services is effective immediately and remains in place until Sept. 3, the department said Tuesday in a public service announcement.

The health centre remains open for emergencies, same-day urgent appointments and telehealth appointments, scheduled follow-ups, blood work, X-rays, medical travel and prescription refills.

Routine appointments will be rescheduled to the first week of September, the announcement said, noting “service reductions or closures are subject to change based on staff availability.”

The Department of Education needs to improved its EDUCATION across the Territory with regular community visits and public meetings that is related to EDUCATION, and what is actually taught in classes. The Minister of Education needs to conduct regular school visits and meet with members, its staffs, students, and public. The Dept. of Education executives and its DM appear to have no issue nor concern reference to flawed system within EDUCATION in schools! The curriculum taught in classes is certainly NOT students LEARNING nor it assists grade twelve grands to further EDUCATION in COLLEGE or UNIVERSITY.

The EDUCATION taught in classes raises concerns at all levels under the admin of Ministers executives and the DM. The system is flawed at all levels with steroids!

And a big thank you to all the staff (medical and non-medical) who are there keeping the place efficiently run. Sometimes our health needs your advice and you are always there.

Since 1999, the year Nunavut was created, 10,000 students had the opportunity to graduate high school in Nunavut. Yup, 10,000 potential teachers, engineers, doctors, nurses, accountants, scientists.

Of that 10,000 it is very unlikely that there are even two dozen men or women practicing in any of those professions. Do ye think the ship has gone astray, Billy?

Most inuit students don’t want to be nurses teachers cops social workers etc. They have seen the abuse they take with their own eyes and have drawn to conclude that there are far better (and easier) jobs available to them in the GN. Unfortunately no amount of education will ever change this.

since the creation of the territory of Nunavut , not too long ago, seems like we left the NWT in a hurry ! if it did not become what it is ,those 10,000 or so students would have have amazing careers instead of living off of welfare with Nunavut government so easily gives without question, we were well off before this separation took place. All government programs were actually dolling out experience from most educational and cultural initiatives when we were NWT. Nunavut became a territory promising posterity for its people ….instead it went 180 degrees within 20 yrs, I guess our leaders just followed Justin our prime minister who made Canada a struggling country in need of good leaders to repair what was taken away .

So if graduates do not want to become nurses, cops and social workers which are all good paying and should be well respected positions then everyone had better start treating those that do take up the careers a lot better or else you will have no one to come to your aid. Just something to think about.
