Stomach illness spreading in Rankin Inlet
Department of Health says disease is ‘not uncommon’ at this time of year

Nunavut’s Department of Health is warning Rankin Inlet residents that a “not uncommon” seasonal stomach illness is spreading in the community.
The illness can spread quickly and may cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain and fever, according to a news release.
The department is advising that residents wash their hands and clean surfaces frequently.
Anyone who develops symptoms is advised to stay home, rest and drink lots of water, while avoiding sugary drinks such as pop. They’re also asked to avoid being in close contact with others and cooking for people in their households.
Sick people can rest and be cared for at home, the department said. People should only seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.
