Nunavut’s RCMP are reminding Nunavummiut to safely store their firearms.

The message came in a Monday afternoon news release.

It advises people to secure their firearms by unloading and locking them in a secure cabinet, container or room; store ammunition separately or locked up; and use trigger locks or cable locks.

A trigger lock is a small device that fits over a firearm trigger to prevent a gun being fired. RCMP offer free trigger locks at local detachments.

Training and demonstrations in the use of trigger locks can be arranged at the Chief Firearms Office for Nunavut, the release said.

The office also offers training in how to securely store firearms.

The release notes many residents may be around rifles and other hunting guns during hunting trips. It is important for those people to have knowledge of the safe handling and storage of firearms as well, even if they may not use them.

It would be good to get the contract info for the Chief Firearms Office for Nunavut.

This firearms safety needs to be a grass roots program, some people are set in their ways. If we can be the youth to be advocates of firearm safety to their parents would be a good idea.

When school starts there should be a blitz at the schools for firearms safety as well as educating children and youth about the dangers of social media and to protect themselves from s-extortion.

    Tagak,

Just provide NHC with your SIN and 2 year income assessment and NHC will be able to determine if you qualify for the grants and they will get back to you.

If you do not provide this information, they cannot determine weather you qualify or no. Maybe you make too much money off your pension to qualify but that cannot be determined until you provide the required informaiton.
