Team Nunavut men’s and women’s wrestlers put on a good show Thursday in their second day of competition at the Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, N.L.
In the morning, the men clinched their first victory of the games, winning almost every match in defeating the Northwest Territories 35-14.
The Nunavut women also had a strong showing in the morning. They faced Prince Edward Island and despite some strong individual showings, the team ultimately lost 25-20.
The remainder of the day was a disappointment for both the men’s and women’s teams, with neither winning a match as the men faced the hometown Newfoundland and Labrador squad and then Manitoba, while the women went up against New Brunswick.
So far, both teams have won one team match and lost four. On Friday, the Nunavut men will battle Nova Scotia while the women face Quebec.
Also on Thursday, the Nunavut men’s volleyball team hoped to build on their first victory of the games that came Wednesday against the Northwest Territories. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to beat Team Yukon, losing in straight sets 3-0 and now have a record of 1-3 at the games.
The women, with an 0-3 record, were scheduled to play Team Yukon at 5:30 p.m. ET on Thursday.
All competitions can be watched live online on the Canada Summer Games website. The two-week Canada Summer Games wrap up with a closing ceremony on Saturday night.
