Suspect arrested in Iqaluit convenience store assault

RCMP say call for the public’s help led to arrest

By Nunatsiaq News

With the public’s help, police have arrested a man accused of assaulting an employee at an Iqaluit convenience store.

In a news release Jan. 9 that included a photo of the suspect, RCMP asked for the public’s help in identifying the man. Police allege he used a weapon to assault a worker at the Quickstop on Nipisa Street on Dec. 13.

Soon after the suspect’s photo was released they received a call from a resident who identified the man, RCMP said Thursday in a news release.

Eelow Korgak was arrested Monday and charged with assault with a weapon and mischief, the release said.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to have his first court appearance Feb. 12 at the Iqaluit Court of Justice.

Congratulations on this arrest. More of them should be incarcerated in terrorizing the people and communities.

“ Police allege he used a weapon to assault a worker….”

I believe that is the main issue. He assaulted a worker. How would you feel if that was your teenager he assaulted with a weapon? He is a bully and a low rent thug. I doubt he ever gets called out on it. Good on them.

Nice. More and more of this happening. 2 full days ago, RCMP announced there was an unprovoked stabbing outside Ventures. And the assailants were not known by the victim . Their release includes pictures. Why hasn’t Nunatsiaq reported on this even more serious matter?
