Nunavut’s Chief Public Health Officer advised anyone who travelled to Pangnirtung on or after Dec. 3 to get tested for COVID-19.
The appeal was made in a press release issued on Christmas Eve.
It came on a day the number of cases in Pangnirtung climbed to three. Two cases were reported in the hamlet on Tuesday.
Across Nunavut, there were eight cases of COVID-19 in four communities — Pangnirtung, Iqaluit, Sanirajak and Rankin Inlet.
The Health Department recommended people who travelled to Pangnirtung in that period to schedule a test by calling the territory’s COVID-19 hotline at 1-888-975-8601. It instructed people not to go to a health centre in person.
It reminded Nunavummiut that COVID-19 vaccines are available to people over the age of five years and that boosters are available for anyone over 12. Appointments are available through health centres.
Patterson said Tuesday the Health Department has been responding to “quickly changing information” about the Omicron variant of COVID-19 since it emerged in Canada earlier in December.
The latest official information on COVID-19 is available on the Government of Nunavut’s website.
