Justin Trudeau announced Monday he is stepping down after more than nine years as prime minister.

In a news conference in Ottawa Monday morning, Trudeau said he told his family of his decision on Sunday.

Parliament will prorogue until March 24, Trudeau also announced, after receiving Gov. Gen. Mary Simon’s approval Monday morning.

Trudeau said he informed Liberal party leadership of his decision, and that he will continue as prime minister and party leader until a new leader is chosen.

Trudeau was elected as leader of the Liberal party in 2013. He led the Liberals to a federal majority win in the October 2015 election. Under Trudeau, the Liberals were re-elected with minority governments in 2019 and 2021.

Honestly, does Mary Simon understand her role? Allowing a government that not only doesn’t have support in the house (all other parties have already stated that they would vote no confidence), but is also pretty much hated by most Canadians to remain in power for three more months because it is in their own interest???? Are you kidding me? What about the interest of Canadians? Folks, our democracy is dead.

Honestly, do you understand the role of the Governor General? It’s to uphold basic constitutional principles, not to check the polls and the demands of a power-hungry Conservative leader before she makes decisions.

        From google.

“The governor general has important parliamentary responsibilities: summoning, proroguing and dissolving Parliament”. Funny, no mention of what you’re saying.

It’s the second one, silly; proroguing

It is all theatre, though. No Governor General has refused the advice of a Prime Minister since 1926. Harper did the same thing in 2008.

Good riddance, now it is just a waiting game for a new Government to get elected and get to work fixing.

    1. Balance the budget
    2. Get tough on criminals and not law abiding citizens
    3. Fix Immigration

January 6th is truly a day to celebrate.

The Liberals and NDPs are laughing all the way to the bank. Look below the surface, Canada is held hostage because parliament is suspended, the no confidence vote cannot proceed which would trigger the election. Once again the Liberals and NDP are holding all the cards and ignoring the majority of Canadians who have a right to choose now! Trudeau should have done the honorable thing and called an election and the NDP should have done their job as part of the opposition holding the Liberals to account for their actions.
