The Twin Flames duo has confirmed their musical partnership is over.

They sent a statement to Nunatsiaq News on Wednesday.

Performers Chelsey June and Jaaji Okpik, who are married, had announced their separation in a Facebook post Aug. 8 but didn’t clarify then the status of their musical partnership.

“The band Twin Flames will not continue, but the legacy of the music and the connection with audiences will always remain,” June and Okpik said in a signed statement, provided by their spokesperson Tieja MacLaughlin.

Twin Flames has been performing for more than 10 years. The duo has released five albums and headlined last year’s Aqpik Jam music festival in Kuujjuaq.

In May, Okpik was charged with several historical sex-related offences alleged to have occurred in Nunavik 25 years ago. The charges have not been proven in court, and a lawyer representing Okpik told Nunatsiaq News that Okpik denies the allegations.
