A 22-year-old man faces three charges, including attempted murder, in connection with an incident in Kimmirut earlier this week where shots were fired at RCMP officers.
Officers in the hamlet of about 425 residents responded to a report of a person shooting a firearm from a residence at about 10:30 p.m. on Monday, according to an RCMP news release Wednesday.
When the officers arrived at the scene the person began shooting at them, striking a police vehicle, before fleeing on an ATV.
Shortly after, the suspect was located while being restrained by local residents and by 11 p.m. was arrested and in police custody.
According to an earlier RCMP release, officers twice advised Kimmirut residents to shelter in place that night — first when the initial report of the shooter was received, and later when the suspect fled on the ATV.
No injuries were reported.
“The RCMP would like to thank the community of Kimmirut for their co-operation and assistance during this incident,” the RCMP said in Wednesday’s release.
Nathan Padluq is charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of assault. He was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, RCMP said.

Well done local residents, that couldn’t have been easy to do.
And , i thought , my home town had problems.
