Nunavik athlete competes in triple jump at Arctic Winter Games

Christopher May of Team Nunavik competes during the Arctic Sports triple jump at the Arctic Winter Games in Palmer, Alaska, on Monday. The Games opened Sunday and run until Saturday. May finished 21st in that event, according to the Games website, with a jump of 7.633 metres. The winner was Leif Richards, of Alaska, who jumped 9.779 metres. Other competitors from Nunavik were Steven Aupaluk, 9.087 metres, sixth place; Gabriel Kulula, 6.776 metres, 27th place; Aqigi Kulula, 4.521 metres, 29th; and Paul Kulula Jr., 4.807 metres, 30th place. Nunavut was represented by Joelie Satuqsi, 8.681 metres, 10th place; Kevin Kritterdlik, 8.268 metres, 16th; Barry Turner, 7.322 metres, 22nd; and Austin Mullins, 7.093 metres, 23rd. Bowhead, beluga whales spotted from above Hudson Strait
