Iqaluit police, along with the Canadian Coast Guard and the Government of Nunavut, helped find and rescue four passengers in a canoe that ran into trouble on the waters of Frobisher Bay.
On July 12 in the early afternoon, RCMP received notice of a boating accident about 21 miles south of Iqaluit.
Two men and two children were found near the 24-foot canoe.
Police say the canoe had struck rock and had extensive damage.
After the canoe ran ashore, one of the adults on board, Joshua Attagoyuk, climbed a nearby hill with the children to call for help.
The Canadian Coast Guard brought all passengers back to Iqaluit.
Noah Shaimaiyuk, the other adult passenger, was treated at Qikiqtani regional hospital, while Attagoyuk was transported to Ottawa for further treatment, the RCMP said in a July 14 news release.
The two younger passengers were unharmed.
A July 14 news release said the canoe was last seen sinking.
The RCMP said the investigation into the incident continues.
