By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

This 175-year-old watercolour by Royal Navy artist and admiral George Back has returned to Canada, where it is now on display at the Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Que. It depicts the HMS Terror in the shadow of an iceberg, with one of the ship’s lifeboats in the foreground encountering a herd of walruses. Back captained the vessel during a difficult voyage to Hudson Bay in 1836. The museum purchased the famed painting at a British art auction last September for $60,000. (FILE IMAGE)
