Photo: Second storm in four days shuts down Nunavut’s capital

Look familiar Iqalungmiut? Another fierce storm has descended on Nunavut’s capital shutting down Government of Nunavut offices, city of Iqaluit offices and the Nunavut Court of Justice. Although Environment Canada is reporting winds of only 65 kilometres per hour, visibility appears to be even less than it was on the morning of March 4 when another blizzard blew through south Baffin, shut down the town and wreaked havoc with Arctic Winter Games flights to Nuuk, Greenland. An 8:30 a.m. tweet from First Air said “due to weather conditions, our flights to, from or connecting through Iqaluit airport may be delayed or cancelled. Please call to check: 1-800-267-1247.” That means all those Northerners who attended last night’s A Taste of the Arctic event in Ottawa — Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami’s annual celebration of northern food and culture — and were hoping to get home today might be spending another night in Ottawa. More to follow. (PHOTO BY LISA GREGOIRE)
