A suspect wanted by Iqaluit RCMP for a break-in Oct. 5 at the Astro Hill Canada Post office has been located — already incarcerated in the Aaqqigiarvik Correctional Healing Facility on non-related matters.

The 39-year-old man was identified by RCMP with help from several tips from the public, said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. George Henrie.

Nunavut RCMP published a news release Tuesday asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a person caught on camera inside the post office. RCMP issued the release after obtaining security camera footage from Canada Post only recently.

In publicly released screenshots from the video, a man can be seen rummaging through mail and various packages.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 19 on charges of break and enter and theft of mail.

The RCMP is also seeking three suspects in a break-in at the Arctic Survival Store on Nipisa Street in Iqaluit earlier this week.

The Arctic Survival Store and Canada Post break-ins are two of dozens of incidents over the past few months that have hit Iqaluit businesses and organizations.

Ah, no name again, even though the RCMP release to the public included it. I’m not sure which journalistic principles you are attempting to follow by doing a “story” about about information the police have already released, and choosing to leave out key details.

Kinds like Cbc play book… police news release will say the race of the suspect then cbc will not say the race of the suspect. Way Too woke i guess but this is important information if you’re going to help identify a suspect?

So let me get this straight. The RCMP didn’t recognize the guy they already had arrested. Guess it shows how good of detectives they are.

I guess you didn’t read the article properly. The guy went to jail before the RCMP got the footage. You can learn some detective work yourself.

Looks like you need your thinking cap. This person was pointing out the fact that the rcmp, upon receiving and viewing the footage, didn’t recognize someone they already arrested and had in custody. So they released it to the public.

That said, the rcmp have a never ending variety of faces they see everyday. They cannot be expected to commit every face to memory.
