Another break-in has hit an Iqaluit business — this one at Arctic Survival Store on Nipisa Street Tuesday evening.

RCMP told Nunatsiaq News in an email they received the complaint of a break-and-enter at approximately 11:50 p.m.

“Upon investigation, it was learned that three unknown persons had gained forced entry to the store storage container and stole about $4,000 of clothing,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. George Henrie.

“The three unknown persons were wearing all black and carried a red bag with them.”

The incident occurred just hours after Staff Sgt. Darrell Gill announced to Iqaluit city council that a majority, if not all, of the suspects wanted for a spate of recent break-ins in the city have been arrested. He made the announcement while presenting the RCMP’s monthly reports for September and October to city council.

At the time, he said RCMP would issue a news release about the arrests “soon” but nothing has been released to date.

Several businesses and organizations have reported more than 36 break-ins over the past few months including First Steps Daycare, the local Royal Canadian Legion branch and Qajukturvik Community Food Centre. These three organizations were targeted multiple times.

The investigation into the Survival Store incident is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Iqaluit detachment at 975-0123, said Henrie.

“The RCMP want to remind the public that it is a crime to possess stolen property, contrary to Section 354(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada,” he added.

What they stole will not be sellable to any customer. $4,000.00 gone along with the damage they caused to gain entry. If they file for an insurance claim for the damage and losses, their premiums will increase for the future. Throw the key away on these pests to our community.

A store is a building. It can’t feel. How does it suffer?

          That’s just a stupid comment.

A business has a life and a death and yes it can suffer, it has an impact on the business which is the whole point.
