Police in Iqaluit today acknowledged for the first time they suspect Daisy Curley’s death is a homicide.
“It’s a homicide investigation,” said Supt. Steve McVarnock, commanding officer of RCMP V Division.
Curley’s body was found May 24 at House 1631 in Iqaluit. The RCMP cordoned off the house and parts of two nearby streets for a week as forensic investigators combed the scene.
McVarnock told reporters police now have those forensic reports and are waiting for a toxicology report from a May 27 autopsy.
“[Investigators] are definitely working on an angle of interest in this case,” McVarnock said.
But he still wouldn’t say if police have any suspects in the case, only that “there were definitely persons of interest from the get-go.”
Since May, police have been circulating fliers carrying Curley’s picture asking the public for any information on her death. The renewed that call today, asking anyone who may know something to contact police or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
