Iqaluit to host open houses on long-term water plans
City announces information sessions scheduled for Nov. 27 and 28
People in Iqaluit will have the opportunity next week to share their thoughts on the city’s plans to upgrade its water infrastructure.
Two public sessions are scheduled to provide updates on progress made on the city’s long-term water work since previous engagement meetings were held, and to discuss future plans, according to a City of Iqaluit news release issued Wednesday.
The federal government gave Nunavut’s capital city $214 million in April 2022 to upgrade its water infrastructure. The money was meant to build a new reservoir and upgrade the water distribution system.
In August, council voted to build a $153-million reservoir next to Lake Geraldine.
The dates for the sessions are:
- Nov. 27 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Elders Qammaq hall in Iqaluit;
- Nov. 28 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Abe Okpik Hall in Apex.
The sessions are open to all residents and interpreters and team members will be available for questions and feedback.
