The justice committees in Kugluktuk and Arctic Bay are looking for new members interested in helping victims and offenders, and who are knowledgeable about social issues, restorative justice and Inuit values.

The Kugluktuk justice committee needs five new members within the community.

Arctic Bay’s justice committee is looking for three—one male elder and two “middle-aged” people, according to a news release issued by the Department of Justice.

“Justice committees in Nunavut use a community-based justice approach to assist victims of crime and work with people who have caused harm by committing an offence,” said the release.

Those who are interested must submit a resumé and criminal record check.

For the Kugluktuk positions, those should be directed to Cheryl Taptuna, Kugluktuk’s community justice outreach worker, at justice@kugluktuk.ca. For more information, she can be called at 867-982-6510.

The Kugluktuk applications will be accepted until all five positions are filled.

As for the Arctic Bay committee, the resumé and criminal record check should be directed to Ina Allurut, Arctic Bay’s community justice outreach worker, at iallurut@gov.nu.ca. She can be called for more information at 867-439-8183.

The deadline for Arctic Bay applications is Friday, March 8.
