People who are fully vaccinated can now enter Nunavut without a letter from the territory’s chief public health officer.

Now, only the federal proof of vaccination certificate is needed, which is the form with a QR code on it.

The Government of Nunavut announced the change — which is already in effect — on Wednesday in a news release.

Dr. Michael Patterson, the territory’s chief public health officer, said in the release the change was made to reduce the burden on travellers.

Before Wednesday, those travelling to Nunavut had to show their proof of vaccination and the letter from the chief public health officer. The letter had to be requested two weeks before entering the territory.

Unvaccinated dependents under 12 years old travelling with a vaccinated parent or guardian don’t need the letter now either, but they do still need to isolate for 14 days when they return to Nunavut.

Fully vaccinated Nunavummiut can get a proof of vaccination certificate and printed QR code from their local health centre.

The paper version or a cell phone photo of it can be scanned.

The certificate is the same document that will allow access to non-essential services, like restaurants or concerts, in provinces and territories that require it.

Since the proof of vaccination certificate is a Canada-wide document, it is currently only available in French and English, but Inuktitut options are being looked into, says the release.

Nunatsiaq News has compiled territorial and federal rules, and created a checklist for travelling this holiday season.

Is there any guidance on how to get my certificate from outside of Nunavut? People in NWT and Alberta can get it from an automated system online.

Are these QR codes from Health legit? I got mine today and tried to download the code onto my smartphone but it wasn’t recognized. I even downloaded a couple of QR & Barcode scanners from Google Play. It still works funny. Any ideas?

Why do inuit that go down for medical that did not vaccinate have to isolate 2 whole weeks WHILE white people coming into canada isolate for 3-4 days?
Been reading more white people stories about the food/3day isolation and dont even hear about the worse food inuit get from isolated hotels.
Somethins wrong here for inuit to always be treated differently

Ask Dr. Patterson, you are comparing a federal decision with a territorial.

Your attempt at sowing division by talking about “white” people is misplaced. It is ALL people entering Canada from select countries, not only ‘white’. It is not unvaccinated Inuit returning from medical down south, it is all unvaccinated Nunavummiut.
