People who want to learn more about a proposed new facility for Larga Baffin in Ottawa will have the chance to hear directly from the applicant at an upcoming virtual public meeting.

Larga Baffin is a boarding home that provides community and medical care for Nunavummiut while they seek health treatment in Ottawa. In November, the organization submitted an application to the city to build a new 220-room residential care facility in the Hunt Club neighbourhood to accommodate increased demand for its services.

Ottawa Coun. Diane Deans announced earlier this month she will host a virtual public meeting about the proposal April 26, over Zoom. It’s scheduled to start at 6 p.m. ET.

“I have invited the applicant to present their application to the community,” Deans said in an April 1 email to constituents. “The lead city planner responsible for this file to provide an overview of the planning application process.”

Deans said attendants will have the chance to ask questions and voice concerns directly to the applicant after the presentation.

The application was paused in January after the city’s planning department shared a summary of concerns with Larga Baffin about the proposal from city staff and the community.

The application was resumed in March with no changes made, Deans said in an email that month.

Anyone interested in attending the meeting can register through councillor Deans’s website.

Don’t forget to add a full bar, liquor store, drunk tank, optional smoking rooms, armed guards, and an attached Walmart.
