News broke late Tuesday that Nunavut’s NDP MP Lori Idlout crossed the floor to join the Liberal caucus in the House of Commons. Read Idlout’s full statement about her decision, released Wednesday by the Liberal party.

Nunavut and the North are central to Canada’s future, and the rights and aspirations of Indigenous peoples must be at the heart of Canada’s democracy. I have devoted my life to this essential challenge.

I have been hearing clearly from Nunavummiut that this is a crucial moment for Nunavut and for all of Canada.

With new threats against our sovereignty and pressures on the well being of people throughout the North, we need a strong and ambitious government that makes decisions with Nunavut — not only about Nunavut. The success of that work needs all of our voices.

That is why after much personal reflection and encouragement from my community, family, and supporters, I have decided to join the government caucus and to work alongside Prime Minister Mark Carney to build the better future that Nunavummiut are counting on.

Our North is where climate change is felt first, where new threats to our security and sovereignty are growing, and where Canada’s responsibilities to our people are among its greatest.

As a member of Parliament, I have always worked to bring Nunavut’s priorities into national focus: especially ensuring the immediate needs of Nunavut are addressed and so that we can confront the high cost of living, the urgent need for housing and food security, the importance of protecting our land and waters, and the need for policies that reflect the culture, language, and rights of Inuit and Canadians all throughout the North.

Mark Carney is our first Prime Minister from the North, and at this turning point in our history, I am ready to work with him to build a strong future for Nunavut and for all of Canada.

They didn’t even try to make this sound like Lori. This was written by some boy in short pants in the Liberal Party headquarters.

Get used to it. Lori has given up her voice to nameless political operators in a backroom somewhere in Ottawa.

Yep, not hard to see that. Abetted by our own media we live in a world of illusion.

The “boy in short pants” pejorative goes over my head. Perhaps someone can enlighten this long-pants wearer

I wonder how much her gaggle order cost 💲 She is bonded to speaking her mind and criticizing, easily provoked into feverish rants of injustices.
If she wanted a seat with the liberals, she should have followed the democratic process and have the votes of the people that pay her salary🤑

LOL from an MP who doesn’t reply to emails or letters.

Though who cares when democracy is rapidly flying out the window with communism stomping across Canada.

It’s a slap in the face for all Canadians; a vote at the polls doesn’t mean squat because the MP word means nothing today.

If Carney gets his 2 out of 3 seats in the up coming April bi-election, and if the 2 Liberal ridings don’t revolt and vote NDP. Because even liberals across Canada are fed up with this ridiculous floor-crossing and they support the NDP’s stand on floor-crossing.

    No more fake MPs.

Parliament will be immediately prorogued. Not long. Only a day or 2 for a Parliament reset as everything dies or ends. This way Carney can create all new committees with a majority of Liberals on them to rubber-stamp his do as I say demands.

To continue the stripping of free speech in Canada – Lori will enjoy this as she pushed hard while an NDP to jail Canadian citizens for their speech she didn’t like.

Now it’ll be any speech Liberals don’t like. Look at the UK now arresting 1,000 a month, or about 30 a day for social media posts. This can include jail for a past deleted post.

Her 15 minutes of fame today will melt into a liberal back bench unknown. Until the Liberals need support for a no voice for no mines, no oil and gas and no jobs in Nunavut. Rely 100% on Government hand outs for digital ID control.

Our eyes and voices must turn to the Senate. To save Canada from becoming totally lost.

Nunavut’s senator is a Justin Trudeau, appointed Liberal. But still write to her and especially other senators as you’ll find one or more who will listen and who WILL reply.

It’s how Canadians come together to stand on guard for Canada to slow or stop the Liberals’ continued destruction of Canada.

Just a few weeks ago, the NDP supported several Liberal motions and new laws. Not Lori. She was sooo opposed to the Liberals that her conscience and logic would not allow her to support the liberals – so she abstained. Now she drops all logic and conscience and will be required to support ALL Liberal motions and laws.

Lori is an excellent example of the canary-in-the-coal-mine which is the rapidly decline of Nunavut and Canadian society. Further the decline of Nunavut society is a precise mirror of the decline of Canadian society – no matter the reflection be culture, education, business, health care, justice, infrastructure, or world-standing.

The head-in-the-sand with elbows protruding Canadian is the exact image of what we have become

Thank you Lori! We appriciate what you are willing to do in order to make sure that Nunavut becomes a priority to our current government. You are a great and strong woman that our paniks and irngutaqs will look up to in the future. Please don’t mind any of the rude comments made because people don’t understand what you have done and how much it actually means to Nunavut. Please do get involved in the proper committees and work to create the proper policies required to make Nunavut a great success!!!

I voted for Kilikvak Kabloona, not Lori! But why did you vote her in to begin with? All of Canada new not to vote for NDP, that why they have so little left, cause no one voted them in…..just Nunavut…..what madness this is.

You mean that you preferred Kilikvak Kabloona to Lori Idlout? Thankfully the majority of Nunavummiut do not share your convictions. There is a reason Lori has won a second term. Same there is also a reason why Karen Kilikvak Kabloona (KKK) has lost elections in Nunavut twice… Not just once.

Lori did not come close to a majority, in fact the ‘majority’ voted for someone else.

You mean to say you voted NDP? whats wrong with you?

It’s very clear, Ms.Idlout has sold out. She maintained for years her stand and why she never decided to cross over from the NDP. Carney’s influence and pockets run deep. Very sad day for Nunavut and for those who look up to her. Clearly this was a strategic move on the Liberal government as Idlout has the support of not only Nunavutimmiut, but Inuit and Indigenous in general. But, money influences greater than morals and ethics these days and this shows us, anything can be bought.

Nunavut is in a very important global position . Nunavut needs to be at the table and in committee meetings. This move was a very good for Nunavut. Lori Idlout Is now in a much better position to y advance Nunavuts interests. Lets remember Lori was given the award from all parties for the MP that best represents their constituents.

It will be strange to hear our MP talk up all the liberal initiatives in the north that she has shot down for years as not being enough or otherwise ineffectual. I hope her head does not spin too much with the change.

Not a fan of Lori at all. However, watching the NDP and Conservatives wring hands, weep and gnash teeth over this does leave a sweet taste in the mouth.
