Simeonie Issigaitok, a 71-year-old dangerous offender with a history of sex assault convictions against minors, is facing new allegations.

Issigaitok is charged with three counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual interference and one count of breaching an order of prohibition, the RCMP said Monday in a news release.

Issigaitok is under a lifetime prohibition order not to attend public parks, daycares, playgrounds, schools, or anywhere youths under the age of 16 are present — including his own children or grandchildren — without a responsible adult present.

The sexual offences are alleged to have occurred between January 1987 and December 1989, and in April 2025, against two victims, RCMP spokesperson Sgt. George Henrie said.

Issigaitok was charged on May 25 in Sanirajak and brought into custody. He is scheduled to appear in court in Iqaluit on June 24.

“Police are continuing their investigation to determine if there may be other victims,” Henrie said in the release.

Anyone with information about other victims is asked to contact Sanirajak RCMP.

Issigaitok has a lengthy criminal history that goes back more than 25  years. He was convicted in 1997 and again in 2006 of several sexual offences against minors.

In 2014, he was sentenced to two years in prison and declared a dangerous offender. Included in Issigaitok’s sentence was a prohibition from returning to his home communities of Sanirajak and Igloolik for eight years.
